CAIR South Florida Leads Muslim Youth to Tallahassee

3/11/2010

On March 11th, CAIR Led 40 Young Muslims to Tallahassee to Meet State Representatives

CAIR South Florida led a delegation of 40 young South Florida Muslim middle school (Suhaba Academy), high school, & college students to the state capitol in Tallahassee, FL to participate in UVA's Muslim Capitol Day. Why did we do this?

Because we believe the purpose of leadership is to create more LEADERS not more followers.

While other college students partied this "spring break," we served as a role model by introducing our youngsters to mainstream political processes. We trained our youth to understand and discuss economy, education, immigration, & civil rights/social justice issues with their State Representatives.

Our larger goal, through such activities, is to build a larger network of future civil rights advocates and politically-engaged Muslims who would like to better their society. Over the summer, we will work with these youth to share our experiences, encourage more people to become active, and host trainings at a local muslim community center near you.

CAIR believes in defending civil liberties but also ensuring that people who are marginalized from the mainstream political process have a voice. Inshallah, we plan to bring more Muslim youth to Tallahassee next year.

This initiative is only the beginning.  So, stay tuned!
